Test Proctoring

The Teton County Library provides test proctoring at no charge to the student or testing institution at the Jackson branch.

Student Expectations:

  • Proctoring form must be submitted at least 5 days prior to earliest requested test date. If testing materials are going to be sent by mail, allow at least 7–10 days additional days for standard USPS mail delivery.
  • Approval for proctoring is dependent upon staffing and room availability.
  • Student must present a photo ID at the time of testing to verify their identity.
  • Student is responsible for contacting school or professor to provide test or exam
  • Instructors or students are responsible for all arrangements and preparation
  • For online tests, student may use personal device or request a computer from the library; library computers do not have proctoring-specific software (e.g. Lockdown Browser) nor can additional software be downloaded for testing on Library devices
  • Test takers using their own device should make sure that they can connect to the Library’s Wi-Fi and have the software needed for their test; we recommend that test takers make sure they can access their online platform and test prior to the test appointment
  • If the student is late, cancels the appointment, or fails to appear for the exam, it is up to him/her to reschedule
  • The student must adhere to all library standards of behavior when taking the exam

Library Staff Expectations:

  • Staff involvement is limited to the following:
    • Receive paper tests, exam instructions, and/or login information for online exams by mail or email and securely retain these documents until testing; documentation must be received at least 24 hours prior to exam administration
    • Check student’s identification
    • Admit student to exam area and provide a location for personal belongings in the corner of the testing room
    • Provide scrap paper, pens, pencils, and non-graphing calculators; all other materials, including graphing calculators, must be brought by the student
    • Issue exam
    • Periodically observe student (as time allows)
    • Document the time frame that the student uses to take exam (if necessary)
    • Sign relevant proctoring forms
    • Return completed exams back to institution via email, fax, or mail
    • Securely retain physical copies of completed exams for 6 months unless otherwise specified
  • Specific staff will not be assigned to proctor exams. Front desk staff changes periodically, so exams may be started and returned to different staff.
  • Library staff is unable to provide one-on-one assistance or observation. If proctoring requires constant supervision, Teton County Library will not be able to proctor the exam.
  • Staff will not sign the name of another staff member on a proctoring form or exam. The library will not proctor an exam that requires one designated person.
  • Teton County Library reserves the right to refuse proctoring an exam that is deemed too restrictive or demanding.
  • Staff reserves the right to refuse using personal or identifiable information to administer exam.
  • Staff may return completed exams electronically or by mail if postage and envelope are supplied by student.
  • Exams must be completed 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • The Library is not responsible for unforeseen events such as network or equipment failure, lost or delayed mail, or library closure.
  • The library is unable to provide a computer with Lockdown Browser. If the student does not have one and the program is needed, the library will not be able to proctor.

Additional Information

Review our proctoring guidelines carefully to ensure compatibility with your institution or test-issuing body's proctoring needs. Upon receipt of a proctoring request form, library staff will assume that any student has already received approval from their institution to take an exam at Teton County Library.

Teton County Library does not have any spaces without interior windows; if this is a requirement for you exam, we cannot proctor it.

Exams, testing instructions, and any additional proctoring forms must be received at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled exam time. Professor/Administrator questions and exam materials can be sent to proctor@tclib.org
