Accessibility

The Teton County Library is a welcoming, accessible community. 

The Library’s Strategic Direction ensures library services, staff, programs, and collections are inclusive. Teton County Library offers many materials and services for patrons ensuring accessibility for all. 

Facilities

Handicapped Parking: The Jackson location has handicap parking on Virginian Lane at the front Main entrance and several handicap spaces in the parking lot with access via the North Entrance. The Alta location has handicap space in front of the entrance. The parking spaces have ADA required access aisles and slopes.

Building Access: Both the Jackson and Alta facilities are single story and access via the doorways includes paddle buttons that will automatically open the doors. Interior doors from the lobbies to the library wings also have paddle buttons.

Restroom Facilities: The Jackson location has two restrooms in the Gallery area of the library; the restrooms each have a stall with railings and wheelchair accessible size. The Youth Services Wing in the Jackson location, and the Alta location have two single restrooms that are fully accessible.

Bookdrops: The exterior and interior bookdrops are wheelchair accessible. 

Outdoor picnic tables: The Jackson location has a picnic table on Virginian Lane and in the library yard that are wheelchair accessible so that all can enjoy our outdoor spaces. 

Library Materials

Large Print Collection

Enjoy new, popular, and backlist titles in fiction and nonfiction in an easy to read, large print format.  Requests can also be made to interlibrary loan unavailable titles.

Assistive Reading Tools

These plastic reading guides help struggling or reluctant readers track words on the page more easily.  They can be checked out for three weeks at a time and are renewable.

Wonderbooks

Cultivate a love of reading and improve literacy skills with our Wonderbook collection! These are print books with a built-in Playaway so you can read and listen to a book at the same time. They can be checked out for three weeks at a time and are renewable.Headphones available on request.

Talking Books

Talking Books is a Federally funded program that loans specially designed playback equipment, large print, braille, and audio books, including materials that can’t be found anywhere else in audio. If you are unable to read or comfortably use standard print materials due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities, whether the condition is permanent or temporary, this program is for you. Contact the Outreach Librarian for details at (307) 733-2164, extension 3244, or email outreach@tclib.org.

Homebound Delivery

Would you like to have library materials delivered to your door?   

This service is for anybody who finds the library inaccessible in some way. Our delivery and returns to your home are free of charge.

What if I do not have a library card? No problem, library staff will help you sign up! 

Onsite Wheelchair

The Jackson location has a manual wheelchair available for all; it is kept near the Front Desk.

Self-checkout Machines

Our self-checkout machines include wheelchair accessible machines.

Reading Glasses

Both locations offer reading glasses for use in the library.

Service Animals

Per the Americans with Disabilities Act, “a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.  The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.”

Emotional support, therapy, comfort, and companion animals do not meet the definition of a service animal and are not permitted in the library facilities.
