Library Assistant I - Youth Services Program Assistant
Permanent, non-exempt part-time position (15 hours per week)
Starting Pay Grade/Step: G3S0/$13.49 per hour

OVERALL FUNCTIONS
Assists in the delivery of Youth Programming that meets the needs
of the community in collaboration with the Education & Program Team.
Programming includes educational services, cultural and recreational
programs and outreach for children from birth through fifth grade.
Specific program responsibilities include: Performing Toddler
Times and Story Times; assisting with daycare, kindergarten and day
camp visits; assisting with after school programs and crafts; participating
in Summer Reading programs; and assisting with Born to Read packets
and distributions.
Collaborates as needed with the Communications Team on promotions
of Youth Programming in alignment with the marketing plan for the team
and the library.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practices of library
science, instruction and learning styles, youth behavior and knowledge
of standard library sources for information in print and electronic
formats.
Proactively supports and promotes the library's customer service
model.
Demonstrates commitment to innovation and flexibility.
NATURE AN D SCOPE OF JOB
Works under the direct supervision of the Education & Program Manager
as a member of the Education & Program team. This position has contacts
with outside agencies, including local schools, businesses, parents,
media and program presenters. This is a part-time, non-exempt position
requiring 15 hours per week.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Services/Program Delivery
Contributes time and effort to the Education and Program Team
to plan and deliver a full slate of educational, instructional, cultural,
recreational and outreach programs that meet the needs of the community.
Collaborates with team members to support the workload and goals
of the entire team.
Provides input on Youth Programming for the Education and Program
Team's Annual Plan process in alignment with the library's overall strategic
goals and program vision.
Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating Youth
Programming in collaboration with the Education and Program Team.
Incorporates innovative ideas for uses of technology to enhance
the delivery of programs of the Education Team, especially as they pertain
to Youth programs.
Annual Planning
Participates with the Education & Program Team in the development
of an overall annual plan for delivery of a full slate of educational,
instructional, cultural, recreational and outreach library programs
in alignment with the library's overall strategic plan goals and program
vision.
Provides significant input and research on the needs of Youth
to the team's development of its annual plan.
Ensures that the annual plan of the Team meets the needs of Youth
audiences and is in alignment with the library's overall strategic plan
goals and program vision.
Stays informed of current trends in Youth services
Participates with team in evaluation of past programs
Participates with team in assessing resource needs for annual
plan implementation
Collaborates with team to set goals and priorities within the
team's annual plan.
Training
Works with Team to establish annual training goals.
Sets personal training goals.
Works with the Assistant Director and team supervisor to develop
and deliver staff trainings on competency in delivery of library services
to youth.
Marketing
Participates in Education & Programs Team's development of
an annual marketing plan, in collaboration with the Communications Team.
Collaborates with the Communications Team to implement marketing
strategies as related to teen programs and services.
Collaborates with Communications Team to research and identify
the needs of Youth for library services and programs.
Leadership
Consistently works to meet the Team's high standards of performance.
Sets effective long and short-term goals based on strategic plan
goals of the library and the team's annual plan in cooperation with
the E&P Team.
Establish realistic priorities.
Excels in managing complex projects and balancing workloads to
reach goals.
Keeps up with current trends in youth programming for libraries.
Community relations
Builds community collaborations to enhance development and delivery
of all library programs, especially those pertaining to Youth.
Participates with Education Team to ensure that all library programs
and classes meet the needs and wants of the community
Networks with community organization and agencies to maintain
a high and positive profile for the library in the community.
Serves as a library contact for youth programming and information
in the community.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience
a. Graduation from 4-year college or some equivalent combination of
education and experience.
b. 1-2 years work experience in a library is preferred.
