Teton County Library’s Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) 

Monday, March 30, 2020

Library Makes Adjustments Due to Ordinance

With the Town of Jackson’s Stay at Home ordinance in effect through April 17, Teton County Library has changed its contact phone number for the Jackson Main Library to enable librarians to continue to serve you remotely.

Library phone-in instructions starting Tuesday, March 31 until further notice

  • For Circulation and Adult Services, call 307-201-3419.
  • For the Youth Desk, call 307-733-2164 and press 2.
  • If your call is not answered, please leave a message and you will receive a response within an hour.
  • Call in hours remain the same:  Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 1:00-5:00 p.m.
  • You may also email us at info@tclib.org for Circulation and Adult Services or tetnyouth@tclib.org for Youth Services.
  • Although the library is closed, tclib.org and our curbside and parking lot Wi-Fi are open 24/7.

Because returning library materials is not an essential activity, the outside book drop on Virginian Lane is closed. Please keep library materials until we reopen. All overdue fines during our closure will be waived. The library encourages you to stay at home as much as possible for the health and safety of you and our entire community.

During this time, tclib.org has expanded digital and database opportunities, as well as virtual programs like our online storytimes. Please call or email us with ideas for virtual programming for community members of all ages. Teton County Library Will Be Closed Until Further Notice 

In the interest of protecting the public and library staff, Teton County Library’s Jackson Main Library and Alta Branch will be closed until further notice. 

During our closure: 

--Starting Wednesday, March 18 contact us by phone and email to help you access our digital materials, answer your reference questions and find your next best read.  If we don’t catch you right away, leave a message and we will call you within an hour. 

Jackson:  Monday-Friday 9:30 am-6:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday 1:00 pm-5:00 pm.

--Access the library’s wealth of materials available remotely 24/7. 

  • We will increase the checkout limits for Hoopla e-books, e-audiobooks, movies and music and Kanopy films.  We will purchase additional items from Overdrive.  Please email us at tetnref@tclib.org with digital purchase suggestions for items not currently available through our library.  
  • We will open access to library card holders who are blocked from digital materials due to fines and fees.
  • No library card?  Call or email us during the hours above and we can help you.  
  • Visit tclib.org/digital to find more about e-books, e-Audiobooks, music, movies, magazines and newspapers.   

--Our wifi service remains active outside the perimeter of our building. This service is available 24/7.  

--Continue to return your items through our book drop.  Additionally, we are waiving overdue fines until further notice. At this time, Interlibrary Loan and placing holds through our catalog are suspended, but any items currently on the hold shelf will remain there until the library reopens. 

--Physical library materials will continue to be ordered and shelf-ready for you to check out when the library reopens. 

--Our selectors will be choosing the latest titles.  We love hearing your suggestions.  Please email us at tetnref@tclib.org with your suggestions.   

--Deep cleaning and sanitizing will occur at the Jackson Main Library and the Alta Branch in anticipation of serving you in the library when we reopen. 

The Library is monitoring the steps taken by the Teton County Health Department, Teton County and the Town of Jackson to respond to this evolving situation. We will continue to post new information here on this page and via our social media and other communications channels as we have updates.

In light of Sunday’s decision by Teton County School District #1 to close public schools March 16 until at least April 5 and a Special Joint Information Emergency Meeting with the Town of Jackson and Teton County at 12:30pm on Monday, Teton County Library will be closed to the public Monday, March 16. Library management, staff and board will be at the library on Monday considering any further direction from Teton County and the Town of Jackson around COVID-19 prevention measures, examining potential impacts of TCSD #1’s closure, and planning our approach to library services.

During this time:

  • We encourage users to explore and utilize the many digital remote services available through your library 24/7.  Go to the Download & Research page at  www.tclib.org to find more about E-books, E-Audiobooks, music, movies, magazines and newspapers.
  • We are waiving overdue fines from March 16-March 31.
  • Our wifi service remains open outside the perimeter of our building.

Teton County Library prioritizes the health and well-being of our community members. We will be considering how to balance providing you with library service and helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). We will communicate our next steps with library services by the evening of March 16.

Our Jackson Main Library and Alta Branch are important resource and gathering spaces for Teton County. In the past 11 days alone, our library was visited over 8,000 times. Teton County Library prioritizes the health and well-being of our community members. We are taking steps to balance providing you with library service and helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

At this time, the Jackson Main Library and Alta Branch Library will remain open with normal hours of operation. However, starting Saturday, March 14 we are cancelling the following in order to reduce non-essential gatherings, keeping in mind individuals and library volunteers at higher risk of illness:

  • The Book Nook will be closed until further notice. 

  • The Library will not be taking book donations until further notice.   

  • The Early Literacy Room, Library Snack Program, and games and toys in the Youth Wing will be unavailable until further notice. 

  • Toddler Time, Story Time, Baby TimeLibrary Saturdays and other programs that take place in the Youth Auditorium, including Afterschool Activities and Teen Night, are cancelled Sat., March 14 – Thurs., April 30.   

  • Library programs scheduled in the Ordway Auditorium and the Alta Community Room between Sat. March 14 - Thurs., April 30 will be rescheduled for a later date.   

  • We will inform the public if the situation changes and assess if we can begin library programming sooner. 

  • We will be in contact with all outside organizations who have reserved the Ordway Auditorium between Sat. March 14 - Thurs., April 30 to assess and potentially reschedule for a later date. 

We are committed to ensuring that our library is safe and welcoming to all.  The Library is following the recommendations shared by the CDC:  

  • Posting signage from the CDC regarding hand-washing and reducing the spread of germs, and facts about COVID-19; 

  • Ensuring that water and soap are available in restrooms at all times; 

  • Making available hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes at our public desks for patrons and staff; 

  • Performing extra sanitizing of all “high touch” surfaces, including computer keyboards and mice, door handles and public desk surfaces.
